It's About Time...For an Update!

Image
Goodness I expected to blog so much more after I got married because I thought my life would slow down. Nope, I was wrong. XD Heelloooo blog readers! Long time no see! So, where to begin on updates? Right after our first kiss! Rifka and Lina! Lucas and I got married on February 2nd and have now been happily married for eight months to the day. We have moved once since we've gotten married and have acquired two new family members---Rifka our Karelian Bear Dog/Shetland Sheepdog mix and Lina, our crazy tri-colored tabby with far too much energy for a normal cat! Over the last eight months, I have been sick with the flu, mono, and countless colds and sinus infections but since seem to be on the rise with better health, a huge praise! Lucas was promoted at his job and is now a foreman, and enjoys making jokes about how unbearably hard and cruel of a foreman he is. (Lucas being bossy is the farthest thing from his personality as could be humanely possible.) Lu...

Turning Over a New Leaf

Image
As I sit here and write this, in the back of my head I know  the laundry buzzer has gone off and there's a load of laundry waiting for me. Also, I sense my little sister R's impatience for me to finish up with what I'm doing so I can put a movie on for her. She's dancing around the room currently and contemplating what movie she wants to watch. Tonight I need to go and get sandwiches made for "the man's" work tomorrow. I also need to think about making some side dishes for dinner. And as I contemplate these things, I look at my blog and I look at my old posts and think, Oh, Lord, how much you've changed in my life. One of my many furry clients at my new work. I get a lot of big dogs. I have changed, a lot. My writing style has changed, my blogging style has changed. Today, I decided to step forth and brush off the blog and give it a new look that fit more of my current stage in life. You'll notice that the blog title has chang...

Gif Challenge!

Image
Wow. Okay, so I got a lot more of a feedback than I was expecting on that challenge, and some of those questions, eep! ;) However I promised a gif response, and here we go! For those of you who aren't sure what's going on, a quick recap: Everyone left questions in the comments section. I answer with gifs in a blog post. Cool, now that we've got that cleared, let's begin with these hilarious questions. ;)

Back Again!

Image
So I've been gone from this for a long while... Hi readers! Let me re-introduce myself- I'm Emily and I haven't blogged here for a while, so in case you forgot me it's nice to meet you all again. ;) No really, sorry I haven't posted in a month. Life has been... shall we say hard, crazy, stressful but full of small little God things? My little sister R. is going through some pretty hefty chemo. She's been very sick the last month and has lost all her hair. She is tired of treatment and is pretty grumpy, often taking out her frustration on my parents, who are exhausted from the little sleep they've gotten. So that's been pretty hard. Prayers still appreciated for R. and my parents especially. Apples with... porcupine quills in them? A story for another post... ;) On the bright side, I had a wonderful  month of work and we are now done with apple season! We made apple sauce with caramel, caramel apples, apple cider, apple cake, celebrated Johnny...

Stranger

Image
Stranger by Emily McConnell Image provided by MorgueFile.Com She wasn’t familiar with the man who sat in the back row at church that Sunday. He seemed to know all the songs they sang, when to pray, and nodded his head solemnly during the message. After the service, Briana hung around her father and the other men stood talking to the visitor. “I’m new to the faith,” he was saying. “I came to this church to see how Christians live out their lives.” Briana nodded in approval. He picked the right church. The small congregation on the border town of Newport was a very conservative non denominational Christian church. Briana had attended other churches in the past that claimed non denominational status that she’d left in a state of confusion and surprise, shocked at the liberties the Christians in those churches took. This new Christian man had come to the right place if he wanted to see how Christians were supposed to live.

The Real Life Struggles of a Fiction Writer

Image
I slap my phone, the buzzer ringing in my ear. It cannot be six forty-five already. I look at the clock hanging over my closet. It is. I’m exhausted. I worked a lot the day before and rode Bodie for a good forty-five minutes, then walked a mile and a half. Plus, I was up until almost ten working on a new story idea. Yet here the time comes again- and it’s time to get up. I could sleep for fifteen more minutes, I decide. I blink. Fifteen minutes have passed. Grrr… Throwing off the covers, I make my way downstairs and get a large glass of water. My throat hurts. I know I’m coming down with that cold my little sister had. Well, more reading time, I guess. Setting my glass down, I make my way to the computer and flip it open. I skim my emails, then open up my newest book- and stare at the page.

The Upcoming Projects

Image
I believe these are Amur Cossacks, but close enough, right? (Tatyana, Ruslan, Dimitri and one of the other men are Don Cossacks, the rest are Kubans, Zaporozhians, and Volodya is a Danube Cossack) I've been using free images from the web lately that are labeled for reuse. Finally found some Cossack photos! Ahem, a little announcement for my regular readers of Fourteen Cossacks: This month I'm going to do a little exposure to a different project I'd like to shed some light on and tell you about. So no Fourteen Cossacks  this month. Plus I need to work on a couple of catch-up scenes for it, but we shall return soon! Okay, back to the main body of the post... Well my dear readers, it is time. Time to tell you what some of you are wondering and have asked me- "What's next, now that Free  was not accepted?"

The Heart-Healer

Image
The Heart-Healer by  Emily McConnell Story Created By The McConnell Family Image provided by morguefile.com A long time ago in a far away land, there lived a man with a broken heart. In this land, everyone had hearts. The day a child was born, he was given a red, glass heart. This heart was very precious and very special. The people of this land were only given one heart, and they had to keep it for their whole lives. The purpose of this heart was to save it and treasure it for the rest of their lives, it was their most special possession. It was a precious gift and was meant to be guarded.

The Magic Penny Story: Scene Five

To read the first scene from this series of one shots, click HERE . To read the scene that accompanies this one, click HERE . Okay, I promised you I would give you the rest of this scene. Well, here it is! I hope I'm not boring you with all of these, I know they're really random. Here's the rest of the one-shot. "It seems I come as a surprise," Dzherri said. “Not really. I knew if Nicolai was around you must be somewhere nearby.” I replied. Dzherri gave me a sideways glance as he said, “From what I’ve learned this day, it seems that none of us,” he gestured towards everyone, “are actually real.” he turned to me and gave a slight smile. “Except, for you.” “Yes, I’m the writer.” I said uneasily. “And none of us can actually be killed,” he continued, “except, for you.” At this, Jake stood in front of me and glared at Dzherri. “Back off.” “Australian?” Dzherri said, raising an eyebrow. “Ah, I know who you are. You’re Jacob Craig.” “Ye...

The Magic Penny Story: Scene Four

To began reading part one, click HERE . Okay, so this next scene picks right up where I left off with that last piece I gave you. I (Emily) have just finished telling Jake he's not real and the whole story of what happened. This is what ensues... Author warning: All mistakes and grammar errors are because of this being written a long time ago, like, almost four years ago. I'm saying this over and over again because in case someone picks up reading this and thinks I'm a bad writer. :P I guess I'm a bit prideful that way... Okay, here's the scene! “So you wished for all of your imaginary characters to be real?” Jake inquired. “That’s about the size of it.” I replied. "And your name is also Emily." "Yep." "And you seriously wished all of the characters to life?" "I said that already." “All of them?” “That’s what I said!” “All of them!” he groaned. “What’s wrong?” I demanded. “You wished for all o...
