Art Concepts- First Attempt

What's this? Can it be?

Why yes it can! It seems my illustrator, the very talented Melissa McConnell (you may have seen her art in the Goldtown Adventure series, or perhaps Tales from the Circle C Ranch or in any number of books, cards, paintings, etc.), has conjured up some Mornelly (and Mornelly friends) pictures! That's right, we're talking the very first concept sketches for the Mornellys in their upcoming book, I-6: Legend of the Mornellys, the first volume of hopefully many Mornelly volumes. :)

So without further ado, here are her first sketches of the Mornellys and some friends.

Misha and Marina, Animun twins, Andro the Equessian. COPYRIGHT (C) 2016 by Melissa McConnell.
Here we have some friends who aren't introduced until the second volume of the Mornellys but Melissa wanted to get them worked out anyways. The Twins and Andro the Equessian. Who are they? Well again they're not until the second volume but I'm sure you may see them parade across the blog sometime... ;)
Mornelly Brother First Concepts- COPYRIGHT (C) 2016 Melissa McConnell.
This is Melissa's first ideas of what the Mornellys look like- and what they'd be if they were animals. She likes drawing animals so she's often comparing people with them, wondering which animal they'd be. ;) It helps her get perspective. Aileen isn't in this one because she wants to do her separately. Hasn't gotten to her yet. Soon, hopefully! CHALLENGE: Tell me who is who right to left in the comments below, I'd like to see if you can figure it out!
The Strange Trio- COPYRIGHT (C) 2016 Melissa McConnell.
And last but not least, it seems this one is about three certain someones who shall be introduced later on. Only one of them gets introduced in Vol. 1 of the Mornellys, and I'll let you guess who that is. From left to right- The Most Excellent Gerhard, Ruslan Ivanovich Petrov and Pancake, along with their respective animals they'd be. She did two of Ruslan because she was trying to get his nose down right. ;)

I hope you enjoyed this little sneak peak. Good news! I have one story left to edit before I'm done with the first editing of the Mornellys! Bad news- it's the longest one yet and it will be REALLY hard to edit down. ;)
But it shall be done!

Have a wonderful and blessed weekend, God bless!

  2. Aichear is the eagle, Ciaran is below him...Damhan is the tiger, Breandan is the one with no animal and Bran is the peacock. How close was I? Break the news to me gently. ;)

    1. Sooo very close! Okay, here's the thing- both the guy with the peacock and the guy without an animal were originally Bran, but the more Melissa worked on them the more she realized that Breandan looked more like the guy with the peacock, so she did Bran by himself. So you were actually right and wrong all at the same time! ;) You did great! :D Thanks for reading and commenting!

  7. Wow, Melissa did a great job!! Oh, the Animun twins are sooo cute!! I had no idea they were introduced in the 2nd book; I thought it would be quite a bit later on! :D
As for guessing who the Mornelly's are. . .Aichear is with the eagle, Cirian is below him, then Damnhan is the tiger, and. . .I was going to say Breandan is the one with the peacock and Bran is the one with no animal, but that doesn't seem right. But the guy with the peacock doesn't look like Bran. Ahh, I'm not sure on those two. It'd be a toss up as to which is which. ;)

    1. Well when it comes to Ruslan, he ends up introducing several characters rather early on. ;) As always he is out of sync with what I had planned. Oh well. ;)

Close and yes, you are right! Both pictures were originally Bran, the one with the peacock turned out to be Breandan later on, though. (Refer to the comment I left Rebekah.) ;) So you got them right! :D Great job!

      Thanks for reading and commenting!
