The Earliest Memories Tag!

So I was tagged in the Earliest Memories tag by Bethany R, who created the tag, and now I get to answer some fun questions! Thank you, Bethany, for tagging me! I was excited to answer these! If any of you readers want to answer the questions go right ahead, I’m not tagging anyone because I think everyone I know got tagged. :) So enjoy! Thanks again, Bethany!

1. What is your earliest memory?
That’s a hard one. I do remember being at a family reunion for my grandparents and sitting on my French aunt’s lap, and my brother had broken the pinata and I had collected  candy off the ground. When I tried to pop a very sticky snickers into my mouth, my aunt took it out of my mouth and told me I couldn’t have it because I might choke. :)

2. What is your earliest memory of a birthday?
I think it was my third birthday, and my Dad gave me the birthday candle to lick and I thought I could eat it, so I took a bite out of the wax and my Dad had to pull it out of my mouth. ;)

3. What is your earliest memory of a food?
Popping a lemonhead into my mouth and discovering how sour it was. That was in Sunday School class when I was four? I got the lemonhead for answering a Bible question. :) I put a lot of things in my mouth, I was a mouthy kid in more ways than one- I talked a ton. ;) Still do!

4. What is your earliest memory of a gathering?
That family reunion in Washington on my Dad’s side. I don’t remember anything earlier than that. I was about three and a half and I just remember there were a ton of people. Most of them I can’t remember to this day. :) I have a ton of aunts, uncles and cousins on my Dad’s side of the family.

5. What is your earliest memory of family?
I think my little brother running after me in the park yelling “enemy, enemy!” instead of Emily and I got mad at him. He’s a year and ten months younger than I.

6. What is your favorite memory?
One of my favorite memories is when I was left home alone with one of my big brothers. (Mind you, my brothers are twelve and fourteen years older than I. This was my brother who is twelve years older than I.) I was five at the time, and he took me out in the car to go get gas in the car. I remember sitting in the front seat of the car feeling like a grown up, and I never forgot how much fun it was to be with my big brother by myself. The funny part of the story is when we got home and Mom found out we left by ourselves, she reminded my big brother that we did, in fact, have a new baby in the house- my second to youngest sister who big brother forgot had been born and was supposed to be watching. ;) Luckily she slept the whole time we were gone and didn’t know we’d left. :D

7. What is your earliest memory of a gift?
My dear Grandma on my Dad’s side bought me two plastic horses for my fourth or fifth birthday. I remember I loved them so much I put them next to my bed and stared at them. One was a black and white gypsy vanner and the other was a palomino arabian. To this day I still have the black and white gypsy vanner on my nightstand, and I always think of my Grandma when I stop to caress it. It’s hair is matted and he doesn’t look very pretty anymore, but I have so many fond memories of that horse. He’s going to be sixteen in two weeks! :D

8. What is your earliest memory of an embarrassment?
I was asked when I was I think five to take off my tutu at ballet class and my tutu was stuck to my ballet outfit, so I started to take my outfit off and everyone laughed at me. I never forgot that because of how embarrassed I was!

9. What is your earliest memory of when you were scared?
The first thing that comes to mind is when I woke up in the middle of the night and I was convinced there was an evil smiley face on the wall lit up by the moon. I turned around and hid my face from it because I thought it was trying to scare me. I never did see that smiley face appear again, I think it was created by the moon shining through the curtains.

10. What is your earliest memory of a camp?
Honestly we didn’t camp until we moved to Washington from California. I think the first camping trip I remember was going back to California when I was thirteen to visit our friends and we camped for ten days. That was quite the introduction to camping. :) We had so much fun, it was a blast. I remember my sister woke up in the middle of the night and saw a shadow at the door of the tent, hit at it thinking it was a squirrel, and then we found out later it was probably a skunk. ;) That was the same trip we found a scorpion under a rock and killed it, and a squirrel sat in my lap and ate nuts. :D

11. How young were you when you received Christ? (optional)
I asked God into my life when I was seven or eight but I don’t consider being a true follower of Christ until I turned ten and I took my first communion. That was a big thing for me.

These were fun to answer, Bethany, thanks for tagging me in this! :D

That's pretty funny that you and your brother left and forgot about your baby sister! If I had been in your Mom's place I would not have been happy but...I'm sure you all find it funny now.
Those were some fun memories to hear Emily!

    1. Yeah, Mom wasn't too happy about it, but we all laugh about it now. That little sister is now fifteen years old and very much alive. ;) Glad you enjoyed!

  2. Well, you have many funny memories—at least for your readers! I enjoyed this more than I can say and I'm glad that you had fun with this! A squirrel in your LAP?? That's not exactly safe . . . but who am I to talk when I hand-fed a seagull?

I can relate to receiving treasured model horses. When I volunteered at that horse sanctuary I told you about, my parents and the staff threw me a surprise birthday party there and one of my dear friends there gave me a whole box of BEAUTIFUL model horses and decorative horse plates. Another memory I have of getting model horses was a birthday party I had when I was young and a friend gave me a mother and filly mustang.

Thanks so much for doing this!

  4. I loved reading your answers, Emily!! Things used to get put in kid's mouths quite often around here too. Including my little brother trying to swallow a quarter...not good. ;)

    1. Oh yeah, not good at all! I stuck sunflower seeds in my nose once... had to get them pulled out by the doctor. Not fun. ;) Thanks for commenting!

  5. It was a ton of fun to read all your answers!!! That made me laugh about your brother and you leaving your little sister at home. ;) My mom told a story that once just after I was born I was sleeping in the car and she forgot about me. Mind you, this is when we lived in WA, so it was nice and cool out. She finished shopping and then came out and I was still sleeping. She NEVER made that mistake again. ;) But we all have fun laughing over it!

    1. Hahahahaha, wow, that's funny! At least it wasn't hot. ;) I think we left little R. in the car once, for only five minutes or so. ;) Thanks for commenting!

  6. Haha, my goodness, you did put a lot of stuff into your mouth! :D

Oh wow, how old (or should I say how young?) was your sister when you left her at home by herself? We've done that a couple times ourselves, but mostly at restaurants, for some reason. Once a waitress was asking Mom and Dad if they ever left any of us behind sometimes, and Dad said "Oh, hardly ever!" And then, as it turned out, we ended up leaving Snow White behind :P

Your answers were so fun to read! :) Thanks for sharing!

    1. I think my little sister was three or four months or so. I don't remember. I was five. ;) Hehehehe, ironic, isn't it, when you say one thing and then end up doing it? ;) Thanks so much for reading!
