Dry Erase Messages

Image
Siblings are super fun. We're also very crazy. At least the siblings in my family. My mother likes to keep dry erase boards all over the house to write notes on and grocery lists. More often than not, though, they end up getting hijacked by us, and depending on the mood things can get verrryyy interesting. ;) I'll let the pictures speak for themselves. :D  Language class in practice- I was working on my Russian and decided to illustrate the lesson. I did NOT draw the blood, though, that was a different sibling! The words in Russian say "here's my plan!" and I wrote my brother's name in Russian beneath it, to illustrate he was the one the plan was going to happen to.

Mornelly Short Stories: Family Portrait- Part Three

To read the previous parts, click the links below: PART ONE PART TWO Image from morguefile.com “This is nice.” Ciarán shrugged, looking down at his dark blue sweatshirt. “It’s clean.” Damhán tugged on his shirt collar. “This is fancy enough, Bran,” he snorted. “I’m not going anymore fancy than this. Already this shirt is killing me, it’s too hot.” He was wearing no more than a very ordinary light colored, long sleeve blue shirt. Bran wasn’t sure if he should order them back to try something else on or give up in defeat. It was irritating enough that their definition of nice didn’t match his- he was, in fact, wearing a suit jacket, nice white shirt and red tie- but that they thought it was perfectly reasonable to wear such questionable attire. Oh, those two are maddening.

You were right, Aileen!” “Told you!” Aileen held her head up proudly, smiling up at Breandan. “Rachel showed me her pictures before, she’s good at everything.” She had an edge of admiration in her voice, but different than the one Damhán had. Hers held the sound of a young girl looking up to a young woman of inspiration. “She paints too, but she didn’t want to show Bran those. She was too embarrassed.” Aichear looked up from the photograph of a Chinese family in front of their siheyuan and made eye contact with Bran. “These are good.” “Yeah, better than I’d thought,” Bran admitted. “I asked her if she’d like to take our picture and she said she’d be more than happy to.”

Mornelly Short Stories: Family Portrait- Part One

Recently I came across a photo in the Mornelly's house that was next to a beautiful painting of the family when they were younger. I asked about the painting and photo, and was promptly sat down by Bran who began a tale about the Family Portrait and what exactly it all meant. This is his story.  -Emily McConnell Family Portrait by Emily McConnell Told to Her By Bran Mornelly From morguefile.com “You know, Aichear, I think it’s time we update this.” Bran studied the portrait on the wall, looking from himself to the other siblings. The painting had been done while in Asieopia, and though it sported the Mornelly men in their Asieopian uniforms and Aileen in an adorable dress, there was no doubt in Bran’s mind it was time to get another painting- or picture- done of the family. For starters, Aileen was wearing a blue dress when obviously she should have been wearing pink. Though far over three hundred years ago, Bran clearly remembered the argument b

Art Commissions

Image
So for the last several weeks, I have been pining away over the fact that I cannot, in fact, draw people. As a writer this is very frustrating. I have a very visual memory and I can construct perfect pictures of my characters in my mind, but I can't draw them out! This makes for a very irritated writer who would love to do art. Thankfully I have sisters and friends who will draw my characters for me, but sometimes I get the urge to do a little art on my own. That's when the ponies begin to form, the only thing I can legitimately draw well.   Random pony examples. Also as you can see I was writing down things to do while I was drawing. ;)

The Writer's Character Questionnaire!

Image
Well it’s been a long time, blog readers! Sorry I’ve been lacking in my blog posts, I hope to get back into my regular schedule, but we shall see. ☺ First off, I just wanted to say thank you all soooo much for the prayers for my family and little sister. It means sooo much to us. Also, thank you everyone for the birthday wishes, that was one of the most special things that’s ever been done for me. Because of R’s immune system counts my parents told me we couldn’t really have a party for my twentieth birthday, so imagine my shock and surprise when I got all these birthday emails on my birthday! I was blessed beyond anything I can even begin to explain to you all, it just meant soooo much to me. ☺ I saved each and every one of those emails to cherish forever! Today’s blog post is something I’ve been thinking about doing for quite some time but never got around to. How many of you who write feel like you know your characters well? How many of you would like to get to know your
