What to say, what to blog...

There are days where I can write three blog posts and be impatient to post them. There are weeks where I want to do a blog post for every day of the week.
Then there are weeks like this one... where I can't think about a thing to blog about.

So I'm going to talk about a fun day at work I had yesterday. I got called out for a job that sounds like it may work into more opportunities to help this gal out with her horses and animals. The best part- I'll be riding horses for work! I'm so excited! Yesterday, I was called at nine-thirty in the morning by this lady and she asked if I would help her get the horses ready for the ferrier.

"What time do you want me to come up?" I asked.

"Could you be ready by ten?"

I look at the clock. That's in half an hour... "Sure!" I replied.

The rest of the day was a whirlwind of grooming, brushing, and holding horses for the ferrier. I caught horses up, I had to catch a runaway horse twice, groomed eight horses and held four of those horses for the ferrier for over four hours. I was on my feet from eleven to six-thirty, only taking a ten minute break at six-thirty to eat lunch. I had a blast! My employer has twenty-two horses. Three of them are Belgians, and I groomed up two of them yesterday. That was a lot of work! I loved the Belgians the best, though. They were so sweet! It's always been my dream to work with draft horses, and yesterday was my first time grooming one.

The other cool thing about where I worked was the amount of animals the gal owns. Everywhere I went I was followed by some exotic or adorable farm animal. There were sheep, peacocks, yaks, (really weird looking yaks, they were about the size of a pony, but were black and white with huge horns) pigs, goats, dogs, chickens, a huge billy-goat, a lama, chickens, and of course, all the horses. One of the goats became my little buddy all afternoon and wanted me to scratch her wherever I went.

The peacocks were loud. I mean, really loud. I would be grooming a horse and one would start calling only five feet away. My ears hurt!

I didn't take many pictures of the animals I worked with yesterday, but I found some photos online to illustrate a bit. I am so excited to go back to work for this gal!
The Billy-goat at work looks like this one. Just about exactly!

Peacocks all looked just like this... and had their mouths opened as they screamed. :)

These Belgians look exactly like Jim, Jack and... can't remember the third one's name.
There were a lot of horses to remember the names of!

This little goat kind of looks like my pal from the ranch. Except the goat that
hung around me was all brown with a bit of white on it's head.

The lama she had was a lighter brown than this, but very similar. Also, he
had no white on his face.

The sheep were about this size but a little fluffier. They were very young
and soooo cute!

I groomed up a dun who looked similar to this one. I don't remember her name,
though. Again, I had a lot of horses to meet and work with.

The yak looked exactly like this one. He had the run of the place. He went
wherever he wanted to go. Oftentimes I'd go out to get another horse
and he was sleeping right outside the arena entrance. I gave him a wide
berth but he didn't seem to care much about me. ;)

I really enjoyed my day of work and I'm excited to go back. I'll make sure to try and take some pictures of all my little animal friends the next time I go. It was so much fun!

  2. Wow! That's exciting for sure. Where I used to ride horses, the owner had lots of Beligians. I even got to ride one once!

    1. NO FAIR!! AUGH! I want to ride one of the Belgians. I'll see if I can convince the gal to ride one. They're cart horses mostly, but I do love drafts. Thanks for commenting! :D

    1. That's a good idea... those peacocks, wow. One of them really liked hanging around me and he would just holler his head off. I felt like my ears were going to pop out. They were so beautiful though.

Belgians are such lovely horses! Yaks...I'm not sure what I would think of working around one of those. They have always look somewhat terrifying to me. I can just imagine accidentally upsetting one and becoming a yak trampoline.

    1. Haha, yeah, I wasn't sure what to think of Mr. Yak, either. But he turned out to be pretty nice. I minded my business, he minded his. He even let me take a picture of him, but it's on my tracphone and I haven't transferred it over yet. :) Thanks for commenting!
